Proposition Two

For those who are registered to vote in Texas and haven't already done so, vote NO on proposition 2 tomorrow (Tuesday). It is a sloppily written, divisive, discriminatory distraction. School finance? What's that?

My prediction is that it will pass 65/35 with 13% voter turnout, and I'd consider anything less than 60% passage to be a victory for the no's.

It is pretty sad when I'm the optimist.

Tell us about the free trade rejection.

Free trade has never been popular in South America, and the reasons are pretty complex. Basically, if the US wants the issue to go forward, it will need to cut our agricultural subsidies significantly since that is an area in which South America, and Brazil in particular, is most competitive. Also, Brazil has a half-ass counterweight to NAFTA in Mercosur, but that trade block isn't very successful. The two real players are the US and Brazil. And it would help if the US had a different president since Bush is toxic.
